Noah’s Ark project: saving the oceans

“The White Syndrome” is killing, destroying the Mesoamerican barrier reef. A worrying fact that threatens to spread across all oceans. It is a disease that causes injury to the tissue on the edge of the coral, causing it to detach from its skeleton and preventing its regeneration. In less than a year, it was detected in 2018 in Mexico, the white syndrome has wiped out 40% of the corals of the Mesoamerican Reef System. A very harmful bacterium that began to be detected in 2014 off the coast of California and that kills hundreds of years old corals, seriously endangering all marine ecosystems.

The coral reefs in danger of extinction

Coral reefs are invaluable and essential for the survival of marine ecosystems. They serve as habitat for many marine species, more than 100,000, and protect coastal areas from natural disasters such as storms and hurricanes. They are also an important source of ingredients for the pharmaceutical industry, since drugs such as antivirals and the anticancer agent Ara-C are manufactured with coral organisms. The latter is used for the treatment of lymphoma and leukemia. Its protection and conservation is one of the main environmental concerns in the current context. Hence, bacterial attacks such as “White Syndrome” have caused a wave of movements for their protection.

Noah’s Ark of Corals

The situation requires awareness and commitment, two premises that are part of the Save The Planet Now philosophy. The new Climate Blockchain Initiatives brand that will fight against climate change through different leading projects worldwide in different causes, and precisely one of those star projects is the conservation and recovery of the Mesoamerican barrier reef. To this end, and thanks to the agreement reached with CICESE, the prestigious Ensenada Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education in Mexico, they have launched the Noah’s Ark of the Corals campaign. This initiative consists of collecting and conserving by means of advanced cryogenization techniques the different species of corals from the Mesoamerican Coast to replant them once “the White Syndrome” is eradicated, as well as supporting research for the total elimination of the bacteria. A job over time that requires great professionals.

Noah’s Ark of the Corals is a complete campaign that needs everyone’s help to finance itself. For this reason, Save The Planet Now has started a crowfunding project to financially support this agreement that will allow the disappeared corals to be returned to the ocean. To collaborate with this project from Spain, there are contribution cards that can be easily purchased from September in shops such as Carrefour, Fnac, Worten or MediaMarkt. A way to contribute to the cause that has all the guarantees that the money invested through the donation cards will go to the Arcá de Noé de los crales.

With your help, coral reefs and marine ecosystems can be saved. Being part of the change is the best thing you can do to preserve the health of the planet. There are no excuses, are you going to stay out?
